Cub Scouts Second Season

Second season for me and my boys as well as the website too. One main objective that I had with the website was to collect all the dens schedules, format them nicely, then post them so that everyone could see them. I quickly realized that dates, meetings, and events change and I created a bottleneck to get this info published. I frankly doubted that anyone relied on viewing the website for this type of information.

This year, we've setup a group calendar through Yahoo! Groups (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/cubscoutpack263members) this year that helps streamline this. I've encouraged the leaders to enter their den meetings on the calendar, and the scout leaders have entered all of the pack meetings as well as dates to major events and certain den trips. I'm thrilled at this change because it minimizes the dynamic changes needed to be put on the website. I will periodically (probably monthly) update the Announcements page and will update the main page with the date of this change.

There's probably tons of things that I can do with this website. One thing that it definitely needs is some updated pictures. Feel free to send me some, otherwise I'll just fill it up with pictures of my boys (hey, they can be very photogenic!)

Let me know if you think that there is some important information, links, or documents that you think should be added.

Is this thing on?

Posting things here kinda feels like I am talking to myself, but that's ok because I can be a captivated audience. I put this out here partly because I was wondering what all the hype is with blogging, but also partly to provide people a way to see what's up without needing to update the main web pages. Feel free to give me feedback at any time.

Website updates!

Nothing major, but I have made a couple changes to the web pages. I removed announcements to events that have occurred. I also added the following link to the links page on the website and this blog: Cub Scouts Academics and Sports Program

So maybe you know all this, but this is all new to me. I'm still trying to determine what's expected of my new scouts, what is the difference between requirements, electives, belt loops, pins, etc... This is a good reference that spells out the requirements to earn the Sports and Academic loops, pins, and/or webelos badges.

The Amazing Race!

The Pinewood Derby was a successful event. Congratulations to all the winners as well as everyone who participated. I'll get some pictures added to the photo gallery when I have a chance. Feel free to provide me some pictures if you want to see them posted! Thanks to Fred, Chris, and everyone who helped out.

Pinewood Derby this Friday night!

Hopefully by now, the word has gotten out and everyone knows that the Pinewood Derby is this Friday night and starts at 6pm!

I felt so silly, but I went to the Post Office this morning for a weigh in with our Derby cars. It is a good thing because I confirmed my suspicions that adding a 2oz weight would have thrown Christopher's car over the limit.

I'm very new to blogging, but am thinking that this would be a way to publish information regarding the pack and/or website and allow some people to comment if they care. This is simply an additional way to thow out some optional information. I make no guarantees that it will always be interesting :-)

For the wolf dens this week, I spoke to the boys about tools. Let's just say it was a tricky audience to talk to. They all did a great job on making their toolboxes. One thing that you might want to share with the kids is an interesting website that I came across:
eHow: Clear Instructions on How to do (just about) Everything This site had simple step by step articles on how to use a hammer safely and how to outfit a basic toolbox. It shows you how to do just about anything you can think of. I thought that it was relevent and possibly interesting to the kids at this age and may be a useful reference.

Enjoy! See you at the race!! Also, don't forget about Pat's Peak Skiing over the weekend. With the Pinewood Derby event moved up, we are thinking we may be able to fit in some tubing. Hopefully we will see you there!

It's my blog and welcome to it!

It's my blog and welcome to it!

This is a replacement for the discussion forum. My intention is to provide some information about changes to the Pack263 website and allow for a simple mechanism for others to provide feedback if they care to. I'd rather post information here and possibly discuss scheduling information rather than cluttering up the main web pages.
